This Is What We Came For

The Super Bowl is upon us! Right around the time you are either ending your month of being “good” or deciding to really commit to eating healthy this behemoth of an event comes to rock your world. Now, while I am excited for a game showcasing two teams outside of the usual contenders I can say with some confidence, I only came for the commercials and the food. Honestly, I could narrow it down further, I came for the food.

I am a huge fan of finger foods and heavy apps. This year I have some traditional and non-traditional options for you whether you are sticking to your guns and staying healthy, or more healthy-ish, these are my top 4.

This most epic of sporting events calls for an equally as epic challenge. Enter: Hot Ones. Line up 6-10 wings on a platter, each drenched in a different and progressively hotter sauce and see how long you can hang in! Milk and bleu cheese sauce recommended. My three favorite sauces to add to your repertoire are Heartbeat Habanero, Sauce Bae, and Torchbearer Garlic Reaper. The chicken we used for these was Naked Truth.

The challenge

If you are looking for chicken but not necessarily the heat try these Korean popcorn chicken bites. A riff on a classic and made healthy-ish by “oven frying” or air-frying instead of deep frying. You will still get a kick but it won’t sideline you.

Keeping it vegetarian this game day? look no further than this fabulous mediterranean dip. It combines all of your favorite toppings in an easily scoop-able way and looks really pretty on your table. Best served with pretzel chips and a baguette.

This beauty of layering is made up of Plain hummus, quartered: persian cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, pieced apart roasted red peppers, and feta cheese with salt, pepper, minced garlic, a pinch of cayenne, dried basil and oregano, and a drizzle of olive oil. Proportions are up to your personal taste. Just the combination of flavor is amazing.

    I was going for healthy but after reading this I think I have to give in and just go for the food! Your last vegetarian option is by far the most tempting. Enjoy!!
